Permanent skin designs are now quite ordinary. Needles that have been filled with ink are used to stain skin with designs that will leave a mark on one’s skin forever. If you decide to have one done on your skin, results are unalterable. You should take this factor into consideration before even thinking about having a tattoo done on you, especially in your choice of design.

Both my sister and I are artists. She is forever full of bold and new ideas. We could be alike in many ways but at odds when it comes to the bold side of things. I am quite content with my low key earrings that only need teeny weenie holes in both ears, but tattoos for me, never.

My sister and I are both artists. She is very creative and imaginative and she is very daring. We have many similarities but we differ greatly as far as the daring aspect goes. I am happy with my understated little earrings that require one minute hole in each ear. I’ve never even considered choosing a tattoo design for myself.

On the other hand, my sister has a few ink drawings on herself that she adores. She created a tattoo design herself that is both magnificent and overwhelming. She got a measurement of the length and width of her back by yours truly. I mapped out the curve of her spine and we transferred a general outline on a large piece of paper.

Drawing from her artistic reserves, my sister sketched a cat which was to be her tattoo design. You can view the cat’s backside but its head is turned so that it appears to be looking at you. The cat’s spine exactly outlines my sister’s spine up to its end, after which, the cat’s tail curls around the whole picture. This remarkable design, if executed will almost completely conceal her back. Despite the design’s stunning and brilliant features, my sister feels that it might just be too large for her minute frame.

Before giving this art media a try, take into consideration how much part of your skin you are willing to cover with marks permanently. An amazing idea such as my sister’s cat could actually cost too much plus the fact that the tattoo will be permanently inked on your skin and having it taken out will cause money and some pain. Right now, my sister is holding on to her cat design and deliberating some more if she really wants to have that cat on her back.

Does Photographic Memory Exist?

There is controversy over the very existence of photographic memory. Photographic memory has been confused with eidetic memory even by experts. It may be because of the misnomer of photographic memory but some researchers think that someone that can remember small details are staying they can recall all events for over three minutes.

The test for eidetic memory is also used to test photographic memory. In this test, a person is given thirty seconds to look at an image, which is then removed. After this, the person looking at the image tries to recreate it in their mind, and tells the researcher what they saw.

Very few individuals have been able to repeat the image in clear detail and after a few minutes could only offer a rough outline. Based on these types of test, these researchers are claiming that photographic memory is a myth.

Despite the conclusions drawn by these experts, there are numerous people who have demonstrated that photographic memory is very real and very possible. The basic theory is that people have enhanced memory capabilities enabling them to remember things longer that most, instead of actually taking a picture with their brain.

Expanding Memory Traits

Most people who are thought of as having a photographic memory are children. Younger people often recall things they’ve seen or experienced in extremely vivid detail. As we age, unfortunately, the memory process is disrupted, and older images are replaced with new ones on a regular basis.

Adults don’t keep information as well since they have so many interruptions in their lives.

There are numerous resources that can help individuals capitalize on their memory abilities and train themselves to have a virtual photographic memory. Memory course have been around for several years to help people with recall of important information such as names and dates, and through this training develop what is sometimes termed as a photographic memory.

At those times of distress, it is our loved ones who most often stand by and support us. But love also has the power to heal and remove bitter memories and situations.

The emotional support that others provide is very precious and can help us to cope with whatever life throws at us. So any relationships you have with friends are ones that you need to definitely cherish.

Love has the power that can help you to change your life too. You can use it to get rid of any negativity through the love of those near and dear to you. Love is a strange feeling, but which will prove to be your strength most of the times, although sometimes it can prove to be a weakness as well.

Quiting Smoking Will Help you Stay Sober

People who are addicted to alcohol are also likely to smoke cigarettes. According to the June 2008 issue of the Harvard Mental Health Letter many experts feel that it’s important to counsel alcohol-dependent individuals to quit smoking as well as drinking not just to improve their health, but also to increase their chances of staying sober.

It is a universal fear that attempting to quit smoking and drinking at one fell swoop will undermine treatment for alcohol dependence.

However, most studies have reported that efforts to quit smoking either have no impact on maintaining sobriety or actually increase success of alcohol treatment.

Currently there is no smoking cessation strategy exclusively for alcohol-dependent adults. For now, the wisest choice is to follow the federal guidelines for treating tobacco addiction, which advocates a combination of counseling and medication.

An important, and still unresolved, issue is whether it’s better to give up smoking and drinking at the same time, or whether it’s better to work on one addiction at a time.

Researchers have learned that when smoking cessation support was deferred by six months, study participants were increasingly likely to stay sober when compared with those who received concurrent treatment for both addictions. Please note however that a follow-up analysis found that this may have been true only for white people in the study.

Dr. Michael Miller, editor in chief of the Harvard Mental Health Letter, observes that no single approach is best for every person struggling with both alcohol and nicotine addiction. Whether an individual quits smoking during alcohol treatment or later, it’s a net health gain.

Do You Know The Danger Signs Of Stress?

All we need to do is look at our lives and see what is happening to us. We are in an insane hurry. Our highways are more crowded and people are in a hurry. Road rage is rampant. Fast foods are more popular than ever. We rush to answer the telephone in three rings. How about the long lines in stores, post office and amusement parks? And those are just a drop in the bucket. More and more people are finding life miserable!

The pressure is increasing as you add weight. Eventually you can not handle it and you break down. When you are under enough stress you will break down no matter how strong you think you are.

There is also bad stress. You feel like a runaway train. You are out of control. Afterward, you are exhausted. The next day you look back on the situation and feel like you could have accomplished more. Nothing good came of it.

We are bombarded with constant change. Researchers estimate that we encounter a thousand times more events per year than our grand parents. However, the time available for decision making has remained the same, or has even decreased.

We feel we have to manage it all, resulting in uncertainties and mental overloads. Some how we keep going, but our bodies protest against our demanding life style.

The flight or fight syndrome has been greatly reduced for modern man. Modern man is more sedentary, his body has no way to get rid of the adrenaline that has been pumped into it. The adrenaline has a harmful effect on the body and causes it to break down.

Let me tell you what we are talking about. You get a telephone call late at night. It is the police! They tell you about the automobile accident your teenager was in. How do you feel? We call this feeling “The sledgehammer effect.” You faint, go numb, you can’t think, and you go into shock. Health deteriorates! That is stress in action.

The body responds in several different ways. It may even scare you. We said that early man sometimes has to fight or flee. That was his way of taking care of stress.

It is important to control the stress in your life. Make it work for you and not against you. Prolonged stress can result in high blood pressure and is contributing cause of heart disease.

What can we do to help ourselves? * The first thing to do is to take control of your time by making priorities and pace yourself. * Assert yourself. If you want it ask for it. If you do not like something, say so. Do not keep quiet and suffer all night thinking about what you should have said. * In times of stress, people need people. Seek the comfort and support of people you trust. We need someone who will listen to us. Although simple, these help measures really work!

How To Get A Great Low Impact Cardio Workout

Late last summer, I finally took the plunge and joined the local health club, in hopes of shedding the 20 or so pounds that had crept up on me over the years. Although I’d been a health club member in years past, I knew my approach would have to be different, seeing as I’m not in my 20’s any more.

A very important consideration for my workout routine was, very frankly, not to hate it! After years of bone jarring jogging and climbing Stairmasters, I knew I could go back to those routines, but I wouldn’t stay with them long term. Yet, it was important to burn fat, develop and maintain cardiovascular fitness, and hopefully enjoy myself at the same time.

A short time after joining the health club, I began to notice the various aerobic class options. Some were as I remembered, while others were more intriguing. One type of class that caught my attention was an indoor cycling class. Although I’ve never been much of a bike rider, I did notice the folks who exited the spin class had gone through a challenging workout and were actually smiling as they exited!

The next day, I participated in my very first indoor cycling class. The instructor referred to the class as spin class and announced it to be one hour in duration. Truth be told, that hour flew by. I found the spin class to be challenging, enjoyable, and a very efficient cardio workout. Best of all, months later spin classes are an important part of my fitness routine. I’ve stuck with them, as they are low impact and actually an enjoyable way to spend an hour.

Despite me just discovering spin classes, they aren’t new at all. In our class, we had students ranging in age from teenager to a few people in their 60’s. These classes are flexible enough to be appropriate for all fitness levels. Our instructor told us we typically burn several hundred calories per class, depending on our own exertion level.

Most spin classes are one hour long. This allows for ample time to warm up, reach a target fitness zone, and cool down. In our class, we have optional heart rate monitors which tell a participant how hard they’re working and how close they are to their optimal fat burning heart rate. Our instructor is very helpful in acclimating people to the class and helping us get the most from our workout. Spin class instructors usually go through a certification process before they can teach a class on their own.

As for the class itself, you’ll cycle on a stationary bike which is specially suited for spin classes. Adjusting the bike to your height and comfort level takes only a minute or two. Similar to other aerobic classes, you’ll cycle along to music, provided by the instructor, with slower songs for warm up and cool down, and more energetic music during periods of higher exertion.

During the class, you’ll be challenged but also able to work at your own pace. Instructors are trained to encourage students to challenge themselves, while at the same time being careful to remind those new to fitness to work out at a comfortable level.

Spin classes have proven to be an ideal addition to my fitness routine, and they’ll likely appeal to you as well. No matter your age or fitnes level, these classes or any type of indoor cycling will give you an excellent cardio workout in a motivated, supportive setting. If you’re looking for a great low impact cardio workout, consider trying a spin class at your local health club. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it as much as I do!
